7 children in intensive care, 2 in intensive care as they fight the delta variant of COVID-19

At least seven children in Mississippi are in intensive care unit as state continues to fight increase in delta variant of COVID-19

At least seven children are in the Mississippi intensive care unit as the state continues to fight the delta variant of COVID-19 – and two of the children are on life support.

On Twitter Tuesday, Dr. Thomas dobbs, an official with the Mississippi Department of Health, tweeted an update from an earlier report, writing: “With a big and personal apology – MS with 7 children in intensive care with 2 on ventilator (life support ). A hospital corrected us its report last night. And yes – 7 children with COVID.

The original claim was that there were 12 children in intensive care due to the highly transmissible variant of the coronavirus.

In his updated tweet, Dobbs chose not to use the word “vaccination,” instead urging citizens 12 and older to “protect themselves”. In previous tweets, he has touted the benefits of COVID-19 vaccines, which are available for ages 12 and older.

Only 47% of Mississippi’s population have been vaccinated against the deadly virus, and only 6% of eligible children received both doses.

“Almost ALL cases in MS are currently a Delta variant,” Dobbs tweeted earlier this week. “The vast majority of cases / hospitalizations / deaths NOT VACCINATED. 7% of vaccine deaths are worrisome – we leave too much Delta in circulation to reach our most vulnerable. “

The University of Mississippi Medical Center said WAPT he treats four pediatric COVID-19 patients, with Dr. Alain jones saying, “We had more pediatric admissions than at the start of the pandemic.”

“What we are doing to prepare for it,” he added, “is to operationalize the plan that we have refined over the past few months to ensure that we are ready for the sharp increases in hospitalizations” .

Mississippi has seen one of America’s most ambitious post-pandemic reopenings. In March, the republican governor of the state, Tate reeves, lifted all mask warrants months before federal guidelines.

Studies have shown that COVID-19 disproportionately affects people of color, and Mississippi has one of the largest populations of African Americans in the country.
