The diva spoke in a song about child empowerment, which means that children, if exposed, engaged and empowered, can promote, preserve and save humanity.

The world will be more than a better place to live with children actively involved in civic activities.

Absolutely, giving children basic emergency skills could mean more lives can be saved in disasters and during emergency crises. There are at least 19 million Filipino children and youth who are the most vulnerable population groups in society.

There is a real need to take care of their survival and living conditions, health and education, as their rights, well-being and development are at the heart of the country’s social development goals, said the Philippine Statistics Authority.

Training them from an early age will allow individual awareness to increase, expand and improve their life skills, especially when these children are mobilized for life experience.

This is in line with the Department of Education’s Child Protection Policy and Program. Not only prepare children to be prepared for emergencies, but train them as responders to crises and health emergencies of their own family and community.

The training program is also enshrined in the Family Code of the Philippines through Executive Order 209, Art. 1987.

Just recently, the Ministry of Education established guidelines on the provision of basic life support training for basic education learners in both public and private schools under the Act of the Republic 10971 or the “Basic School Life Support Training Act”.

Similarly, implementing rules and regulations covering all public and private schools and basic education institutions, including learning centers of alternative learning systems, have already been developed.

Training is a vital life skill that equips students with the knowledge to deal with medical emergencies, Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said, noting that quick and proper first aid can save a life.

The declaration is also aligned with the United Nations’ call for the 2030 Agenda, or so-called global goals, which aims to end poverty and hunger and realize the human rights of all.

It aims to achieve the empowerment of women and girls, gender equality; and the protection of the planet and its natural resources. Ultimately, the global goals wish to balance the three dimensions of sustainable development which are economic, social and environmental.

BLS will train children in emergency cardiovascular care and first aid, which will be integrated into the school’s comprehensive health and physical education curriculum, which is also gender and culturally sensitive.

Of course, naturally, students with physical or mental disabilities are exempted from following the training program. The BLS program was created under Senate Enacting Bill 3204, as an amendment to House Bill 6204 by the House of Representatives on May 23, 2016.

The program can be a tool to not only develop children’s life skills, but also their sense of self as health and safety conscious individuals who have a high regard for their family, neighbors and community. .
