How many bad films has Madonna, the interpreter, made? Two: the dreadful “WE” and the forgettable “Filth and Wisdom”. (Domestic gross for the first $582,075, for the second $22,406)
How many more will he destroy? At least one: the story of his life.
According to Jeff Sneider writing in Ankler, Madonna will direct the movie of her life co-written with Diablo Cody. It’s a recipe for disaster. Madonna, who has been proven not to be much of an actress or director, is determined to make another stink.
Actresses who have been approached to play Madonna to play her are obviously unimpressed. Sneider says Emmy winner Julia Garner of “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna” was approached but appears to have been successful. Just like Florence Pugh, a former Oscar nominee. That leaves two low-level “Euphoria” actresses, who are supporting players at best.
It’s hard to believe that anyone would fund Madonna to make a movie about herself that she wrote. It’s like when we say “only a fool takes himself for a lawyer”. The Madonna film will no doubt be a big, bloated vanity project without any objectivity in which the singer portrays herself as a martyr, a saint and an angel. God protects you. We do not know why Universal Pictures lets her do it: she is no longer big enough to comply with his wishes.
As for the actresses, it might help if the woman they chose could sing or dance — not that Madonna is Whitney Houston. But she sings for a living and has made a very good one.
