Man dies from a gunshot wound to the head after days of resuscitation; Sylacauga man charged with manslaughter

SYLACAUGA, Ala. (WIAT) – A man who suffered from a gunshot wound to the head died Friday morning, and investigators charged a Sylacauga man with manslaughter.

Orethaniel Dell Swain, 51, has been arrested by the Talladega County Drugs and Violent Crime Task Force and Sylacauga investigators. He was charged with manslaughter and taken to Talladega County Jail on $ 15,000 bail.

On October 2, officers from the Sylacauga Police Department responded to the 700 block of Billingsley Road following a call for shots and a person lying on the ground. Upon arrival, they found Lester “Tulu” Wilson, 55, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Wilson was transported to Life Saver’s helipad where he was airlifted to UAB Hospital.

Wilson was placed on life support, but at 5 a.m. on Friday, October 8, he died of his injuries. Authorities say his body will be taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
