A woman was on life support Friday afternoon after a domestic assault, authorities said.
The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office said on Friday afternoon that 36-year-old Jamie Beighley was strangled to the ‘point of unconsciousness’ at the New Falls Hotel in Lincoln’s 200 block Highway, which is about 800 feet from the police station, by Evan Marquis Smith, 36, of Morrisville.
Late Thursday, officers were called to the motel for someone who had suffered cardiac arrest. They arrived to find Smith performing CPR on the woman.
“Smith became combative and uncooperative with first responders before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. Officers pursued Smith for a short time before terminating the pursuit in the interest of public safety, ”officials said in a statement.
Beighley was found unconscious on the motel floor. Police found blood around his head, face and hands, authorities said.
Rescue measures brought a pulse back to Beighley and she was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Middletown Township.
On Friday afternoon, she was in the intensive care unit on life support, said the public prosecutor’s office.
Smith was arrested in the Hunter Drive area in the Pennwood Crossing mobile home park shortly after his escape, officials said.
Smith told police that the couple engaged in a heated verbal argument before engaging in sexual activity, at which point Smith choked Beighley to the point of unconsciousness. Medical reports indicate that Beighley’s injuries correspond to a strangulation, ”authorities said.
Smith was arraigned at 2 p.m. Friday by District Judge Jan Vislosky for aggravated assault, strangulation, reckless endangerment of another person, common assault and flight and escape. He was held on $ 500,000 bond.
